Kansas is a state located in the geographic center of the continental United States. It is located in the southwest corner of the north-central states that comprise the country's Midwest region. Kansas is bordered to the north by Nebraska, to the east by Missouri, to the south by , and to the west by Colorado. The state takes its name from the Kansa tribe who inhabited the area.

Kansas is largely an agricultural state with vast amounts of its land dedicated to farming. Principal grain products include wheat, sorghum, and corn; principal animal products include cattle, sheep, and hogs. Kansas is one of the largest natural gas producers in the country; the Hugoton Natural Gas Field in the state is believed to be the country's largest.

Kansas is a large state, and the climate varies depending on location. Most of the eastern and central regions are classified as humid continental with hot summers and cold winters. Kansas LocationThe western region is considered semiarid steppe with hot summers and cool winters with relatively little rainfall. The southern region is humid subtropical with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Rainfall in this region is generous. As with other states in this area, severe thunderstorms with devastating tornadoes occur annually, particularly in the spring.

There are no major professional sports teams located in Kansas. However, just across the border with Missouri are the Kansas City Royals (MLB - AL), the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), and the Kansas City Wizards (MLS).
